Intricate (Narrative Quickie 1)

He should've seen it coming.

First the flash, illuminating the muzzle;
then the whizz of the bullet, locked on its target like it had done this a hundred times.

Thud. The damage has been done. Smoke curled from where the bullet had been.
He looked down, and saw the ring of crimson spreading rapidly across his white shirt.

With all his strength deserting him at once, his legs buckled and he folded onto the floor.

Except, he wasn't surprised to end up like this.
He didn't even feel the intense pain that was eating him alive.

All he knew was that the pain he felt before that needed to be stopped.

He dropped his gun and waited for his escape.
